Bamboo Airways officially signed the agreement to receive two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft in 2019 from GECAS
On October 22, Bamboo Airways officially signed the agreement to receive two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft from GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS). The Handover Ceremony will be held in Singapore in preparation for the upcoming operation of these aircraft in Vietnam from November 2019. Thanks to this Event, Bamboo Airways will become the first private carrier in Vietnam to operate wide-body aircraft.
GECAS is a leading commercial aviation financing and leasing company which provides a wide range of aviation financial services, including aircraft leasing/lending, engine leasing, asset management, and aircraft consulting. Up to the present time, GECAS fleet is comprised of more than 1,700 owned, serviced and on-order aircraft and the lessor cooperates with 250 partners worldwide, including the world’s leading airlines such as Qatar Airways, Vistara, Allegheny Airlines, etc.
This delivery continues the long-term cooperation of Bamboo Airways with Boeing and GECAS in the supply of aircraft. These aircraft will be the first two handed to Bamboo Airways, paving the way for the Airline’s expansion of fleet with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner in 2020.
In addition to wide-body aircraft, GECAS will continue to provide two brand new Airbus A321neo aircraft in Hamburg – Germany, built according to the specific requirements of the Carrier. Previously, GECAS also provided Bamboo Airways their first Airbus A321neo.
Speaking at the Event, Executive Vice Chairman of Bamboo Airways Dang Tat Thang said that the Signing Ceremony is a crucial milestone in the process of developing a standard fleet of the Airline, serving the goal of expanding its route map covering international destinations.

According to Mr. Dang Tat Thang, the constant expansion of the Airline’s fleet with aircraft of high quality plays an integral role in achieving its goal of providing 5-star services on every flight, which will enable Bamboo Airways to be an Airline of hospitality which meets international standards.
Impressed with the FLC Group’s 18-year of operation, GECAS highly appreciates the potential and strategy of FLC Group and its member company – Bamboo Airways. With the above agreement, GECAS is committed to the on-time delivery of the new Dreamliners to Bamboo Airways.
The main model of aircraft in the fleet
In a prior response to the media, a representative of Bamboo Airways confirmed that the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft plays a key role in the Carrier’s long-term operation.
“This model of aircraft, which possesses all suitable features to be operated on long-haul routes through different continents, meets all requirements of our Airline – an Airline that caters 5-star-oriented service,” he said.

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is currently the most fuel-efficient aircraft, with new technologies applied to minimize the weight of the aircraft as well as to reduce the frequency of maintenance. Outfit with GEnX engines, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner model enables a 20% fuel savings and 30-40% maintenance costs as compared to other similar aircraft.
The cabin of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is designed to provide maximum comfort for passengers, with larger space and lighting system using LED technology. Humidity and pressure in the cabin are kept equal with the pressure created at the height of 1.8km, helping reduce fatigue for passengers on long-haul flights. Passenger seats are designed to be spacious with better reclining ability. Meanwhile, business class seats offer a complete recline into a 180-degree position that allows passengers to lay comfortably.
To be put into operation effectively
Bamboo Airways signed an agreement to purchase 30 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner wide-body aircraft with a total listed value of 5.6 billion USD. From the end of 2019, the Airline’s fleet will reach 30 aircraft, which is expected to grow to 100 by 2024.
In addition, Bamboo Airways’ pilot team operating wide-body aircraft has been completed. Currently, most of its pilots are foreigners, which is the result of the cooperation between Bamboo Airways and more than 10 prestigious international human resources providers such as Brookfield, Flight Crew International, Rishworth, Paramount, Jetwork, Wings, Apas, etc.
“Currently, the core personnel have been trained and fully equipped with relevant knowledge and certificates to master their control of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Technical stages are being finalized to be soon submitted to the competent authorities for verification after receiving the aircraft, in accordance with the regulations of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, ICAO, Europe and the US’s authorities. Receiving an additional AOC certificate in QIV/2019 has also created a great driving force for Bamboo Airways to soon put this wide-body aircraft model into operation,” Deputy General Director of Bamboo Airways Nguyen Ngoc Trong emphasized.
Bamboo Airways is currently operating 28 domestic and international routes. Its network is expected to expand to 37-40 routes by the end of 2019, including regular international routes to South Korea, Taiwan (China) and Southeast Asia.
Up to the present time, the Airline has operated more than 14,000 safe flights with an average load factor of 90%, OTP rate of 93.9%, the highest in the entire aviation industry of Vietnam since January, 2019.
